Human resources is amazing! They are the best thing about the school. The students are mostly respectful. They are taking on more EAL learners to compete with surrounding schools. School spirit is low. Students prefer being lectured to. Parents are generally supportive but there a quite a few "snow plow" parents and a very small number of uninvolved parents. The last director and high school principal were easy to work with, considerate, and listened to concerns. New director...well. Elementary teachers should prepare to be micromanaged and it is likely you will be more knowledgeable and experienced than current administrators. On both campuses staff is friendly but not particularly warm - very cliquish. The city is okay. Lots of people and it may be a bit difficult to adjust to the cultural way of life. Most people stick to the expat bubble. This is not a particularly friendly place for blacks or people who might be mistaken for black. Housing is nice. Secondary campus is far away from town. Great spot for families, first-timers, and couples. Okay place for singles.
It is a good school in a very easy to live in city. The MS/HS campus is a bit far but busing is provided. Very family oriented school. Students are polite and hard working. Good pay package - probably in the top 15% in the world. Housing gets more challenging each year as Chinese real estate is expensive but there are still options.
