This school is run as a business entity by a Taiwanese board of businessmen who are ignorant when it comes to educational matters. There is a revolving procession of Heads of School as the board is incapable of hiring an experienced professional (3 in two years). The current incumbent is manipulative, demotivating and more interested in promoting the interests of the group of cronies he bought with him who also share the same religious leanings. It has clearly been indicated to those of us who are outside the 'magic circle' that we should move on - and several of us are happily obliging. The atmosphere is uncongenial due to a lack of transparency and trust as directed from the top down. Contracts are only given for one year and the salary barely compensates for the polluted, industrialized location. Housing is in a new, noisy block aways from the school and it is hard to get maintenance when things go wrong. Most of the kids are great and very motivated although others are lazy and entitled, while materials are adequate. Medical facilities in Beilun are pitiful and it is a 3-hours bus trip to Shanghai. Not too many home comforts here. Not a great place to be with little kids especially from the pollution point of view. If considering a position here, check out who the Head of School will be next year and ask some candid questions. Yes folks, there are better locations and schools who reward their teachers with two year contracts and incentives and who don't hire unqualified cronies. The school has shrunk from 160 students in 2013 -14 to 80 students in 2015. Parents are voting with their feet as standards crash down. Staff turnover is around 70% annually. Nothing changes although each new head has a "vision" - usually their pay packet!
